[close] Traditional fantasy. It's hard to figure out how to "sell" this book. It's fantasy, politics, sex... It starts off with quite "Mary Sue"ish things like the fact that everyone in that country is very beautiful, and the main character is extremely special. It's also really not for everyone, there's a lot of sex and it's BDSM stuff. The world-building and characterisation is amazing though, these books really take my breath away. It's part of a pair of trilogies, but the first book has enough action for some trilogies.

What do I think? I think I shouldn't try fantasy anymore. The SM wasn't erotic either. It's one of those where I don't get the popularity. ...more

Wow. This was seriously a trilogy in one book. I could definitely have broken it down into three sections. But it was so much more rewarding to have all of it at once, with a satisfying conclusion to the epicness which has occurred. Especially now knowing that there are two more books, probably around the same size, that are still a part of Phedre's tale! So it actually is a trilogy, which likely makes this about nine books jammed into three when all is said and done. Ah for the days when long b ...more
