The Roaring Trumpet by L. Sprague de Camp & Fletcher Pratt. I actually read this in an omnibus called The Compleat Enchanter. A bizarre old fantasy story about a hapless modern man who figures out the mathematical way to get into mythological worlds, and then make a huge ass of himself in those places. Very funny. I have no idea if these are well known at all or not.
