I’ve always heard amazing things about Tim Powers’ work, but I’ve tried The Stress of Her Regard before, and didn’t really get on with it. I didn’t do much better this time, although I persisted and read the whole thing. I feel like if I knew the life stories of Byron, Shelley, Polidori and Keats, I’d understand exactly what was going on better. It took a long time to get through this book. I downloaded it as an ebook from a really good independent because it wasn't available for my Nook from Barnes & Noble. The formatting of the ebook made it really hard to read and the material, like most of Tim Powers work, is very dense.

This book is a big ol' pile of "meh" for me, which I find fascinating, because I own it in audiobook, ebook, AND deadtree versions.
A doctor stumbles into a race of supernatural vampire things, and gets tangle up with Byron, Shelley, Shelley, and various other historic figures.

The third of my top three Tim Powers books, after The Anubis Gates and Last Call. I love the combination of historical and literary figures with mythology and folklore. I've always thought this would make a great movie. Powers is great at capturing action.
