Another book martyred to the work-commute-audiobook cause. I need to make a new shelf for these poor audiobook listens that leave me pretty nonplussed afterwards, because I manage to miss so much. And for the confused reviews that result.

I really wanted to enjoy this. I'd been a huge fan of Iain Banks fiction during my teens and early twenties, and having become some what of a science fiction fan over the last few years I had high hopes for his culture series. I had already read Player of Games and sure, it was 'okay', but certainly not the best science fiction I had read lately. I then read Excession and I actually really enjoyed it. Okay, I thought, I'll go back to the beginning of the series and give it all another go. Nope.
