DEEEEE-pressing. As has been pointed out before: there is no anarchy or any outright panic present at all. What you have is just pure sadness. This is a novel that will stick with me enough that Ill never need to read it again. Thats not to say that it wasnt good, but it accomplished what it needed to accomplish with me and thats that. This one totally snuck up on me. At first I was like, where is the drama and desperation? But slowly the characters won me over and by the time we got to the [spoilers] pogo stick scene, I had tears streaming down my face. To the critics who don't buy the calm, resolute end-of-world vibe, I choose to believe there was much more dark stuff happening that didn't get focused on in the novel.
