Sometime I'll write a proper review of this book, but for now my head is still spinning with how offensive it was. And I'm slightly upset with myself because I have a sense of pride about being able to get past time and culture to see the good points in a work of literature. So that's annoying me as well.

In short: Women are stupid, weak, temptresses that exist solely for men's pleasure and Kazantzakis's own poorly-contrived symbology.

3.5 the book did not stand the test of time, but all in all has a deeper layer to it that makes it interesting.
