I struggled with what to make of Camus' M. Meursault. In contemporary parlance, we might consider him, if we are being kind, as suffering from Asperger's or, if we are not, as a cold-blooded psychopath. True, he seems to lack any sort of human compassion or to connect on an emotional level with others. I thought I would love this book considering the theme, but it never quite hit the mark. It's good, don't get me wrong, and I can imagine that if you liked Catcher in the Rye you will like this one. While I enjoyed the questions he rose, I needed that extra little umph to really get going. I don't mind that the character is detached, I get that's the point, but then I think you need to be more sharp in your comments. Or else maybe I'm just not clever enough to read between the lines.
