I think The Iliad was the first adult classic I ever read unabridged. I was in 8th grade, and I scrawled myself a cribsheet to keep up with the multitude of names and which gods had dominion over what. The Iliad is still one of my favorites.
I regret putting twenty years between Hector's death and the sack of Troy. Virgil tells that part of the story particularly well. I liked his writing style generally, although I admit that they play-by-play of the Italian campaign was a little too much. ...more
