A fun read on an Asian-American woman whose boyfriend of two years has neglected to tell her he comes from the highest class of Singapore society before bringing her home for a wedding. Enjoyed all the nuances of wealth and privacy (new money, hidden money, schooling choices, etc) of the elite. Kwan writes vivid descriptions of lush clothing and buildings, and certainly delicious-sounding food. A fun vacation read. The main couple themselves are boring, but the side plots and great details were worth it. The lists of extravagances can get long but I liked getting a fictionalized glimpse into this world, and the food and scenery descriptions make me want to visit Singapore. I'm looking forward to watching the movie and reading the sequels.

Loved this book! It was a very fun read that I could not put down. Loved the drama, family conflicts and the ridiculous amounts of money being spent by these wacky characters. I didn't realize there was a sequel until after I finished it
