This was as much a book about love as it was a book about grief...and I suppose therein lies the central theme, that we mourn only those we have loved. Utterly beautiful and haunting and full of imagery I want to revisit, poetry I want to look up, words I wish I could write, and a life I want to emulate.

Surprisingly, this is the first Didion piece I've read. It takes a little time before you get into it - generally, it is about how she deals with the loss of her husband and the illness of her daughter. She dissects her way into grief, mourning and what comes after. Her writing is that of someone who is trying to organize and understand the emotions that naturally follow the death of a loved one.
