Just absolutely amazing. Haunting. Breathtaking. Enchanting. All those cliché words from the clipped-short reviews that appear on book jackets. I haven't read such a skillfully constructed story in ages. You have to stop and just admire the framework, for starters. And then the prose--just beautiful. I think this may be my favorite novel. Every time, I am drawn in & breathe the story & believe & feel it all. Simple & powerful telling of a vast, complex history.
