This was really, really fantastic. I listened to the audio version, and would highly recommend it. I have to confess, this story hits several of my nerd excitement buttons - an ancient dusty bookstore, a centuries-old puzzle, charming eccentrics, secret societies, cryptography, and of course BOOKS! Robin Sloan does a wonderful job of crafting his odd corner of the world in a way that feels possible. Last week I ranted that I hate when books mention Twitter or Facebook or any other newfangled thing, because it immediately makes them seem dated and because I am a curmudgeon. Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore is the exception. I don't know how well it'll read in ten years, but in 2014 it is a delight.
