Some of the essays in this book made me go, "Yaaaaaassss!" and fist pump, while others were more like, "Yeah, okay." I particularly enjoyed Gay's thoughts on feminism, which bracket the book.

Did I enjoy it? Yes, I did. Collections of essays are always tough because inevitably there will be some that you hate and some that you love. This was no exception, and while I didn't love every single essay in the collection, I liked an awful lot of them, and they got me thinking about a lot of feminist issues from a different point of view.
Would I read it again? Some of the essays yes. The whole book from cover to cover, probably not.

First of my 2016 nonfiction challenge books.
It's funny to me how fast pop-culturally focused essays can start to seem dated. This book was only published 18 months ago, and already some of the essays deal with things that feel hopelessly out of date. A lot of the essays are pretty shallow in conceit and lacking in focus as well. That's not to say I didn't connect or agree with plenty of what Gay had to say--I definitely did.
