everyone already read this last year, but i'm still catching up. anyway, this took me a while to really get into and tbh, that's probably more my fault than adichie's, but apparently all i needed was a few hours on a plane and no distractions to let myself actually read this. immigrant stories are of particular interest and this one is beautifully written, funny and heartbreaking, and made me want to call my parents and ask them a million questions.

This is an excellent book, one of the best I've read in a while. It covers:
- race relations in America, including black/white and African American/American African
- the experience of being an illegal immigrant
- things that white Americans do around people of color that make them look clueless
- ordinary life in Nigeria
- love
among other things.
If you grew up/live in a very white area of the US, this book is likely to be educational on several levels. But it is also extremely well-written and not p ...more
