What Members Thought

It’s no surprise that Shirley Jackson is good but, damn, Shirley Jackson is so good!
This is a sort of dreamy, slow paced book for the first 60% or so, and it goes back to that at the end too, but the feeling of creeping dread is so strong that you can’t stop reading.
Even if you predict the twists and turns, it doesn’t stop the chill when they actually happen, and in fact knowing that something is coming is part of the horror.
