Where the Road Takes Me is a story about two teenagers named Blake and Chloe. One night, they ‘meet’. Blake is jogging and sees a distressed Chloe. He’s the type of guy that needs to help her and make sure she’s okay. Blake is taken with Chloe from the very start. You can tell Chloe has some sort of feeling for Blake, but she won’t let herself feel. Won’t let her self get too close to anyone.

To be completely honest, I wasn't so sure how I would like this book. Jay's previous works, the More series, hold a special place in my heart and I wasn't sure if this book could top it.

IT DID!

Not only was it an amazing novel, but it made me FEEL. It make me feel every possible emotion. I loved it, I hated it, I loved to hate it, I laughed, I cried, I shook my phone in frustration! This book has it all.

Trust that the most unexpected person to fall into your life will actually be your life and soul. Jay McLean does not write to write, she writes to feel. She puts herself 100% all in with emotion and heart from the second the words form with in her. You cannot just read Jay McLean…you feel her from the top of your head way down to your toes. From the thoughts in your brain to the depths of your heart. She can evoke feels from places you didn't know existed and never dreamed possible.

Where the Road Takes Me was the most unexpected things I've ever read from her. I had nothing to go on except “it’s Jay McLean”… and it was better, way better than I could have thought of. I was blown away by her sheer ability to write a great story. One that I can completely lose myself in over and over and over again. One that will stick to me even after it’s been read. One that even days later, can make me quote or re-read sections because it was THAT GOOD.

The characters…oh the characters…FANTASTIC!!! I fell in love with each of them so hard. I mean Chloe… adorable, troubled and strong as hell Chloe. Melted my heart in eleventy three different ways. BLAKE HUNTER is a freak’n GOD!!! “I placed his hand against my heart so he could feel the impact this had on me. You've just completed me”…DIED!!! I mean who recovers from that??? Jay McLean had me brought down to puddles of emotional mush just from the sheer building of this relationship!

DO NOT even get me started on the friendships in this book. I mean AMAZING!!! Everyone’s characters evolved and matured in the course of a summer to the point where I couldn't imagine NOT reading them. Friendships were made and lives were changed. I was in awe of how seamless Jay made everything. Josh and his determination, Blake and his blind faith, Chloe and her acceptance nearly killed me.

“And that’s when it happened. Something changed. A switch. It felt like someone had taken away the grey dullness behind my eyes and splashed color into them”. That’s what Jay has done to me. She has turned on the light and I see beautiful vivid color. She has taken me to a point of no return as a reader. She has held my hand through the heartache to heal and be rebuilt again. This book was amazing, beautiful, thoughtful and above all else magnificent. It is her best work yet. I am so proud of Jay and this book and all that it represents to her and the book world. She has turned my world red in more ways than one and I will be forever grateful. This book is 100% worth all of the love and feels that you will receive from it. 5 STAR READ ALL THE WAY!!!

I love the Hunter and red-letter days.

To me this story is more grown up even though the characters are in high school.
Chloe and Blake meet by chance one night.
Chloe is shy and prefers to be invisible. Blake is popular, quite the opposite of Chloe and has a 'girlfriend'. Blake can't seem to keep his brain off of Chloe.

I have been waiting SO LONG for this book! And I'm so happy that it's finally here, and I get to share it with you!
Let's face it...if Jay McLean writes it, I read it. Period. For those of you who have read her More Than series, this book is not like those. It is more YA than NA. I don't think a book needs to be perfect to be great. I have come across various issues with many books, McLean's included, and still found reasons to adore them, just like I adored Where the Road Takes Me. Sometimes her stories veer into the cheesy, sometimes the endings are rushed. Sometimes the shocking scenes seem a bit unbelievable. Chloe Thompson and Blake Hunter’s roads have been paved a specific way since they were young, and those journeys couldn’t be more contrasting. But all it takes is one chance encounter for their lives to take a different route – one that deep down they both desperately want and need but one that is also hard to follow due to personal choices plagued with good intentions and a numbness that is hard to dispel.

An invisible nobody with an uncertain future and unattainable dreams who builds walls in order to keep people on the outside, forgoing meaningful relationships due to unrelenting loss and fear – this is the life Chloe Thompson chooses to live; it’s her way of coping with the hand she’s been dealt. Jay McLean is an amazing writer whose new adult stories pull readers in from the very beginning due to her wonderfully crafted story lines and her multifaceted characters who stretch and grow as Jay takes them on a whirlwind of adventures that cannot help but alter their lives. A lot of her characters have been through horrific experiences, and while they want to give up and surrender to the pain, the consistent message that is explored throughout these heart wrenching stories is that in order to survive, you fight, and when you don't feel like you can do it anymore, you reach out your hand and hold on tight to the people around you who would willingly lay down their lives to make you happy.

There are lessons to be learned in every experience, whether good or bad because without bad times, there would be no “red-letter days” and without understanding loss, there would be no “unexpectedly phenomenal.” Life isn’t easy; it’s a tough road to hoe, but if you find someone willing to take that journey with you, hold on for all its worth!

Here’s to more red-letter days just like the one I experienced reading Jay McLean’s heartbreaking and heart strengthening story!
