I’ve seen all the raving reviews, I’ve seen all the proposals to Roman, I’ve seen all of it. And so I was SO excited for this book.
And it fell flat. Like, dropped-off-a-high-rise flat. And having read this right after Onyx Storm? Lethal mixture. I’m surprised I’m not falling into a slump.
I know I’m saying mean things about this book, but it wasn’t terrible, okay? It wasn’t bad.

it gave something. it was giving... until he joined her at the new job. but then they became too sappy and boring. boo. more angst needed. the vibes were cool/meh, but the world was mixed stuff- you have fantasy world stuff then you have contemporary aspects. so the world building was overall bad. the romance was cute, especially the lil notes (which were PERFECT). i predicted the brother part but not the epilogue. i wish we got more of the fantasy aspect because mostly, it didn't feel like fant

Trying to collect my thoughts on this one. It was like a Dear Mr. Knightly meets Shop Around the Corner meets a World War II historical fiction but a fantasy novel.
(the one thing I wasn't a huge fan of was Marisol's wife and the way she was always referring as "my wife" --it felt extremely awkward and out of place?) ...more

I enjoyed this book. I think I just wasn't the right person to read it. In my opinion it lives up to the hype and is worth a read whether this sounds like something you'd like or not.
