I guess as you get older, you do appreciate values a lot more. This book was so amazing, I really didn't expect to get so incredibly attached to Jem and Jean Louise as I did. The writing style is so incredibly rich for something so easy to read. I was hooked on it.

I can't define a part of the book to be my favorite, as it would be very unfair for this brilliant author!

The book broke my heart. Part 2 of the novel had me in tears, because of the values that were buried within each sentence. I thought it invigorating more than anything to read purity and humanity at its core. The character development was phenomenal, along with all the details of Maycomb County.

I think rewriting the book in my review is absolutely pointless, because it would go amiss of me reciting Harper Lee, even though the review is for her book. I loved the characters and how they flowed about throughout the book, and carried with them the southern cultural values that one needs to grow and consistently apply and always remember.

I couldn't resist but wonder throughout the entire novel the reason why Jem and Jean Louise never called Atticus dad. I believe it might have been out of respect. I'm definitely aware and not dreaming that there was weight to this book and it's a book I'll remember always.

The descriptions of Maycomb as a town was out of this world. I really thought of myself in the neighborhood with them. The Maycomb Courthouse and Maycomb's jail were two buildings, I wished I was there to witness!! What a distressing case on Atticus with a beautifully crafted and planned argument to only lose it at the end even though it was all backed up with so much hope to make you feel that "yes, Tom Robinson has a chance." The way of Harper Lee's writing of the sensitive and controversial topic of racial discrimination was clear as day! I came to absolutely despise aunt Alexandra, because of the way she tried to treat Calpurnia but thanks to Atticus failed miserably to do so.

Boo Radley's mystery was incessant in my thoughts, picturing him as a monster or weird, scary creature who will come out and finish off the whole town. I could have never expected the ending as I read it so flawlessly written.

I'm saddened that Harper Lee is no longer with us to show us more of her eloquent writing. I'm so glad and I see it as a novel very well deserving the Pulitzer Prize which she attained. I can't wait to see this crew on screen!! ...more

I had several people say to me after spotting this book on my desk, that is their favourite book. So how come I've not come across it before, when everyone else has! I'm so pleased I have finally read it, it took me a while to get used to the language, but the story was fascinating. I think in this day and age you forget just how racist people were and I love the fact you see this through the eyes of a young girl. ...more
