Oh. My. God.
This was an EASY 5/5 stars. No doubt about it.

What a freaking read! This book is the absolute PERFECT YA fantasy book, honestly it took me right back to being young again. If you’re searching for a book for a 17+ year old for Christmas? This is the book you should buy.

Again, Natasha weaves her magic with her words, taking us to Germany, on the edge of the infamous Black Forest. What tales await? Let me tell you….

To Kill a Nightmare by Natasha Madden is a YA paranormal romance/urban fantasy with dark spooky vibes and suspenseful elements throughout.

We follow Amelia, a young witch who is forced to move to Germany and stay with her Aunt after an incident that occurred at her home in Australia. There's something about that causes her powers to be erratic and dark hence having to stay with her aunt. While trying to learn to control her powers, *I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

To Kill a Nightmare by Natasha Madden is a YA paranormal romance/urban fantasy with dark spooky vibes and suspenseful elements throughout.

We follow Amelia, a young witch who is forced to move to Germany and stay with her Aunt after an incident that occurred at her home in Australia. There's something about that causes her powers to be erratic and dark hence having to stay with her aunt. While trying to learn to control her powers, she also needs to navigate a new life, new school, the broody boy that though seems to not be able to stand her, can't stay away while also fighting an evil that has followed her to Germany and doesn't want to let her go.

All the characters were well-developed, and relatable though I didn't get as much of a chemistry connection between Amelia and Wolfe (the broody boy) but I didn't really connect with him in the first place. Amelia's relationship with her Aunt as well as her dad felt really genuine though as well as her experiences in making new friends, dealing the the queen bees of her new school, etc.

The book was easy to read and the kind of book that you could easily follow along with without having to stop and say 'wait, what did I miss'. I'm a visual reader and could easily picture the events as they were occurring.

The plot premise of the book was something that isn't common, or at least something that I haven't read previously so it was a nice change to the typical concepts of true mates or enemies to lovers which though I feel those tropes were a part of it they weren't the primary ones and fit perfectly into the plot itself.

Just a personal opinion, but my one negative was Amelia and Wolfe's relationship. Their connection and building up to it felt forced to me. Like the end goal was for them to be together so everything felt like it had to work around that. Also, there were times when Amelia felt like she was incapable of taking care of herself and was constantly being saved which made the climax a little unrealistic to me as it was like a switch has been clicked but no build up that showed her growth to get to that point.

The ending doesn't end on an obvious cliffhanger which I appreciated and the main questions were mostly answered by the so it definitely allowed for opportunity to either be a stand alone or part of a series.

Content Warnings: there is mentions of death of a parent as well as death of a friend as well as some violence and a little spicy scene towards the end though small.

This is my first experience reading this author and look forward to seeing what other books she's written and delving more into her catalog in the future. ...more

If you are looking for a y/a this book is for you.
This book takes you on an adventure. I love the character growth in it.
