Read this in one sitting. Schwab's prose, as always, has a propulsion all of its own. The story itself is a pretty original take on the vampire genre, and I appreciated Schwab's own personal touches on vampire lore. Sabine's storyline is the one that I found most compelling at first, but as the novel progresses, it is interesting how that focus shifts onto the others. Lush, gothic, and utterly captivating. A vampire story like no other.

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil is a masterful slow-burn that blends horror, heartbreak, and beauty in a way only V. E. Schwab can. This book is good. But I am going to say if you’re someone who struggles with books that jump around timelines and POVs, this book may not be for you. This book has several POVs and does jump through time. The book is not spicy IMO. The spicy scenes are not descriptive. The relationships are adult relationships. The book makes it seem like the romance is the main focus, but it isn’t. The book focuses more on their lives, journey, and descent into depravity. The book makes it feel very realistic ...more
