As an ancient history addict and a “rocks” lover, Pompeii holds a special place in my heart. I have visited the ancient city several times already and I do not know if I will ever get enough. The ruins, the frescos, the ash people… are just a few examples of the wonders that transcend us into the past, a window in time.

An intriguing look at Pompeii before the volcano eruption and one that is not totally focused on that horrible event. It tells the story of an aqueduct worker and his day to day life in the shadow of Vesuvius.

This book was enjoyable. Lots of history here and it has made me want to go to Pompeii. The story moves at a decent pace and, like all Harris novels, the attention to detail and accuracy is great and brings the scenes of the ancient Bay of Neopolis to life. The outcome is quite predictable but I liked it nonetheless.
