I am almost speechless as to how amazing this novel really is. Even though I finished this book, this book is really the one who finished me. I cried a lot and had a lot of emotions, while reading this. This book is adventurous, mysterious, hopeful, tense, sad, dark and reflective. The writing of this book by the author is perfection. I absolutely adored Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows, so I was so excited when I saw that Rebecca Ross was releasing another book set in the same world! Wild Reverence met my expectations and more - dare I say I liked the plot more than the og duology?? 👀

⤷ ‼️You do not necessarily need to read Divine Rivals before reading this book‼️There are no direct spoilers and you do not need to know the plot of the duology to be able to understand and enjoy this book. All this standalone does is expand on the world-building and fantasy politics of the original series. Keep in mind this is marketed towards adults while the og duology was YA - there is some minor spice and more violence.

Wild Reverence follows Matilda, a young goddess with humble magic in the gods’ cutthroat world, and Vincent, a mortal boy who dreams of Matilda without having ever met her. Years pass, blood is shed, and eventually Matilda and Vincent cross paths again in a battle between life and death - for both the mortals and the gods.

I can’t even begin to explain how this book captured my interest, then my heart, then chewed me up and spit me out. I loveddd Divine Rivals but this book was SO much more devastating (tread carefully 💔) and the connection between Matilda and Vincent was even sweeter than that of Iris and Roman. The push and pull between Matilda and Vincent is what made their couple that much more interesting; they both survived experiences so similar (yet so different) that pushed them apart for years, but the aftermath of those experiences is what brought them together.
AND, big plus as a miscommunication hater, they talked out every conflict 🙏

The reason why this book didn’t get 5 stars like its predecessors is because the pacing was a littleee bit slow. As much as I loved the characters and plot, the pacing of certain moments wasn’t as organized as DR and RV and dragged a little bit in the middle, while the ending sped up some of the most important scenes.

Regardless, my favorite read of the month!! ...more

A truly beautiful book in every way.
This book had the yearning of Divine Rivals and the sadness of Ruthless Vows. Both Vincent and Matilda were excellent characters who had so much depth. Their love story will stick with me.

I love Ross's writing style, and it really shows through in Wild Reverence. The way the setting is described in the multiple realms and how the atmosphere is created gives the story life. This book made me cry, and I had to put it down to take a break sometimes, but I ...more
