⠀⠀⠀ ❥ This is probably the most repetitive book I’ve ever read. It dragged on endlessly, and was so repetitive, slow, and painfully predictable. The plot was nonexistent, and the characters were so bland annoying. I skimmed so much of the book since it was such a struggle to get through.

This book was absolutely perfect. It exceeded all my expectations for Powerless and Reckless and then some.

I honestly can't recall the last time I devoured a book like that.

It was incredible. I enjoyed every single moment and was never bored, not even once. Although the second Trials scenes felt a little forced or out of place at times, they were still so well done. Pae and Kai's relationship has been the driving force through the whole series, but because it's the main focus, the other parts of the story suffer. I still found the series entertaining, even with all of its faults and plot holes.
One main issue I had was how it felt like so many things ended in death. I felt like Lauren sometimes just didn't know where to go with the story. It also felt like she may have been making things up as she wrote and not planning things out.

Wasn’t this disappointing? Rip

I had a feeling I wasn’t going to like it as much as the first book simply because the second book was equally as disappointing actually the second book was so much worse. But what frustrates me the most is why can this author not get an idea of her own?

I know that is extremely harsh, but it’s kind of ridiculous! The first book is a almost copy and paste of red queen and people can try and fight it all. They like it has way too many similarities.

I had a feeling I wasn’t going to like it as much as the first book simply because the second book was equally as disappointing actually the second book was so much worse. But what frustrates me the most is why can this author not get an idea of her own?

I know that is extremely harsh, but it’s kind of ridiculous! The first book is a almost copy and paste of red queen and people can try and fight it all. They like it has way too many similarities.

The second book was a whole lot of nothing and could’ve been condensed to around 150 pages and made into a novella.

And this book was just the first book with some really obvious plot twist.

The only reason this book has three stars and not two or one is because one thing this author can get right is creating characters that I can really fall in love with and build that emotional connection with and I will admit I did cry at the end.

I didn’t saying that I was also extremely confused and disgusted why everyone was okay with them slight incest And before anyone says it’s not incest it feels like it and that’s the worst part. If it feels like it it shouldn’t be there or it needed to be way more obvious. I don’t know. I actually don’t agree with any of it so no thank you.

Another thing is, there was so much potential for Mak and for him to be just killed off like that are you kidding? He could have made such a difference for the empire and he could’ve been such a strong voice within this dystopian life if you’re going to do a novella for these side characters and give them such a strong voice only to kill them off in such a weak way do not do it. I don’t wanna hear about it.

Kitts character was very frustrating and I feel like the author should’ve done a bit more research or tried a little bit harder when riding about a character who is mentally going insane and poisoning themselves because he was all over the place. He felt more like a spoiled child than someone who was actually going through quite a lot. The letters he was writing at the end made no sense to his character. I wouldn’t call it development but progression maybe throughout the book. And him ending with ‘ I hope you both love each other’ made no sense actually was the most confusing thing that has come out of his mouth the whole book he was another character who actually deserved much better and to be killed by his brother that’s cooked. ...more

Lets just start off by saying that this was so close to a 5 star read, like SOOOOOO close. Toward the end of the book there were so many things that we find out that begin to tie everything together but I guess I felt like this kind of all happened a little too fast? These 4.75/5

These were some genuinely like life altering things and it seems like we just found out about them then simply moved forward onto the next thing.

That being said, I loved these characters more than I could have ever imagined I thought I would before starting this series. Admittedly there were many things that were predictable to come but also so many that weren't too - this book kept me on my feet and theres nothing I love more than that!

Though secretly my biggest wish beyond this is that somehow we get a book or series based on Lenny??? I love a good side character and Lenny is everything that I could want in one - him asking to be released on his duty so he can leave is super interesting to me and I would love to see if theres a future where we get books that show where he ends up (and ofc how the world wouldve ended up after everything that took place in this book)

Youre telling me I spent so long yearning for Makoto to come back to the story so that at the very least him and Paedyn could have each other despite all they lost just for THAT to happen?? I mean I understand his death and probably willingness he had to return to see Adena but omg... Kind of upset me lmao - I also kind of wish we got a chapter in his POV from that fight between him and Pae

Also was nottt expecting Kitt to die???? But i suppose it makes sense that in the end it was to his brothers hands, even though it wouldve technically been from his own doing eventually anyway. I did wish we had chance for the three of them to all be happy together in the end but ofc thats too much to expect lmaoo

my brain feels fried. my 2 stars are for kai azer and kai azer only. it was originally 4 stars for him but after i slept on that decision i really could not stick with it.

kai azer, his poetic lines and all his yearning for paedyn was the only good thing about this entire series to me now.

look in all honesty i loved the first book, and reckless probably ended up being my favourite. but damn this one was a let down.
