The most important thing to stress when one is discussing this book is READ THE UNABRIDGED VERSION! The book has an incredibly complex plot revolving around intrigue and revenge, and if you do not read the complete version you'll miss out on five or more major plot points. The fact that Dumas wrote this as a serial is astonishing considering its complexity. Every character who ever wronged Dantes gets his comeuppance by the end of the novel, and every character who ever helped Dantes gets reward
