What Members Thought
Pennsylvania native Richter was well-known as a serious writer of historical fiction set on the Pennsylvania and Ohio frontier (one of his other novels won a Pulitzer Prize). This is one of his "minor" works, and is certainly short enough to be a fairly quick read; but nonetheless, it doesn't lack for emotional intensity or for complexity of thought content.
