I updated my star rating from a 2 to a 4, because after re-reading this for the first time since 2012, I realized there were certain elements here that I actually love but missed the first time around.. Mitch and his devotion will always be number 1 for me. And I loved how this one closed, and of course Billy and Billie have my heart... But Mara will forever be NOT the chick I want Mitch with. This one is my least fave in this series. I hate to say that cos I love Mitch. But I was very disappointed with this one. I only give it 2 stars cos the last 6 chapters, things started to come together. With heart, soul, & the sense that not only Mitch's chosen one, (Mara) got some sense, but that maybe just maybe, she was actually worth the headaches. Me personally, I thought only the children were worth it.

Now the reason why I feel this way about Mara is because her constant ramblings about this "2.5-10.5" scoring system, concerning what class people belonged in and her obvious extreme low self-esteem, ran my nerves ragged. So much so, that I found myself growling at my laptop. Often, as she would revert back to this way of thinking often. So it always left me with the impression that she is so not worthy of Mitch, and why oh why is he wasting his time with her? He could help her out as a friend, lead her to the right path in what she would need to care for these children, but why he felt so strongly about her I didn't get. Her attitude about herself was a complete turn off and she just did not seem like the type of woman a man like Mitch would want let alone bend over backward to take on her and all the apparent life altering baggage that came along with her.

Also the story with her family, yes it's common it happens alot. And it's heart breaking, but the way it was executed here left me feeling like it was very much contrived, and it just did not strike a real cord with me.

Maybe I would have liked this story more if we got more of Mitch's POV. But 90% of this story is from Mara's POV, and her's is beyond annoying.

As I said the last 6 chapters I was beginning to feel that this one was beautiful and by the end it came together. But not to the degree that it took away all that I truly did not like about this story.

If you want to follow this series in order, then yes I would say read this one. It's not a total bust, but it's not the best one in the bunch either. Which again sucks, because Mitch is my man and I love him. I just didn't love the story surrounding him. ...more

Okay it's been a while since I read this and was evidently in love with it at that time. Don't get me wrong, I still liked it this time, but not as much as I apparently did in the past. This time I kept thinking that Mitch needed a woman who was more confident. I understand that Mara went through a sh*t childhood, and that affected how she saw herself in a major way, but her rating/zone system annoyed the shit out of me.

Okay it's been a while since I read this and was evidently in love with it at that time. Don't get me wrong, I still liked it this time, but not as much as I apparently did in the past. This time I kept thinking that Mitch needed a woman who was more confident. I understand that Mara went through a sh*t childhood, and that affected how she saw herself in a major way, but her rating/zone system annoyed the shit out of me.

The turnaround happened when she got Billy & Billie. I absolutely loved those kids and how Mara and Mitch was willing to go to bat for them 100%. More than anything I was wishing I could just take them in my arms and give them both the biggest hug.

It also got even better once Mara got her head out of her ass and started living in the real world (as Mitch likes to say) and realized what she had in her life: Two beautiful kids, friends that have her back, and a man who is crazy about her.

I could not put this book down. I had a raging headache that wouldn't go away, even after does of medication, but I kept reading. I just couldn't stop.

I thought that I loved the other books in this series, but those didn't hold a candle on this one.

I have a girl crush, and she started out living in Mara World, and that was an often time hilarious place to be, but when she came out it got even better. Plus, I love Mitch. Mara and I would have to share him. He is the embodiment of what a man, especially a book boyfriend should be: hot and sexy, patient, protective, understanding, and alpha to the core.

I laughed a lot and cried a little through this story. I love when it feels like I am experiencing what the characters must feel at any given moment from love, to sadness, to fear, and anger.

Lastly I have to mention Billy and Billie, my heart was broken for them, but was mended along with theirs. It is sad, but true that there are children who have to go through what these two babies did or worse everyday. Their father and mothers were worthless pieces of crap..

Hightlight: We got to see Hawk/Gwen, Brock/Tessa, Elvira(always crazy), Lee, Hank, and Eddie(I'm sure I forgot to mention someone, but if you have read more than this series you know what I mean, and if you haven't you should.)

I was very, very disappointed with this one. Mitch deserved so much better than what was given to him, for a heroine. The story itself, I had issue with overall.

Now, let's talk about Detective Mitch Lawson—a literal dream man. Patient, funny, and oh-so-persistent, Mitch handles Mara's walls like a pro. The way he sees her, understands her, and never really gives up on her even when she’s busy pushing him away? Swoon! Not to mention his instant love for Billie and Billy. No hesitation, no drama—just pure, unconditional love. And that’s where Mitch shines brightest: he’s the kind of guy who makes you believe good men are *out there*. He's straightforward, protective, and genuinely good-hearted. Honestly, he might just be my favourite of Ashley’s Dream Men. Sorry, Delgado!

Now, the real stars of the show—Billy and Billie. These two adorable little hearts practically stole the entire book. Billy, dealing with insecurities no kid his age should have to, broke my heart. He’s too young to be carrying the weight of the world, and every time he showed his vulnerable side, I just wanted to hug him. And Billie—oh my gosh, she’s pure sunshine! Always ready with a smile and the kind of sass only kids can pull off. These two deserved every ounce of happiness they got, and watching Mitch take them in like his own? My heart!

And let’s not forget about *that* epilogue. Kristen Ashley knows how to leave us on a high note, and she did not disappoint. It was the perfect bow on top of an already adorable story. ...more

With every Kristen Ashley book I read, I always find a new favorite book and another character that I can’t help but fall in love with. This was no exception—I LOVED Law Man and am IN LOVE with Detective Mitchell James Lawson!

We first caught a glimpse of Mitch in a small but impressive role in the first book of the Dream Man series, Mystery Man. This time around we are reintroduced to Mitch through Mara, the painfully shy and insecure neighbor, who has pined for Mitch for years from afar and wh With every Kristen Ashley book I read, I always find a new favorite book and another character that I can’t help but fall in love with. This was no exception—I LOVED Law Man and am IN LOVE with Detective Mitchell James Lawson!

We first caught a glimpse of Mitch in a small but impressive role in the first book of the Dream Man series, Mystery Man. This time around we are reintroduced to Mitch through Mara, the painfully shy and insecure neighbor, who has pined for Mitch for years from afar and who Mitch has an interest in as well. Before long and before they are able to start a relationship, Mara finds herself the guardian of her two younger second-cousins, Billy and Billie. The change of circumstances does not deter Mitch and he jumps in with both feet, without hesitation, and thrusts himself into their lives.

What’s so great about this story is watching the growth of the characters and the evolution of the relationships, both individually and as a family unit. Mara becomes more self-assured, more confident, and she rids herself of the ludicrous point system that had previously hindered her. Billy learns that he can rely on others, to let go of the weight on his shoulders to keep himself and his sister safe, and truly learns what unconditional love is.

Mitch, oh sweet Mitch, was perfect in every sense of the word. Not only did he posses the typical Alpha male qualities, but he was also so incredibly sweet, kind and patient, and damn, there is nothing sexier than a man who is great with and loves kids. But a man who cares for kids who are not related by blood, loves them, supports them, encourages them, and claims them as his own without question…how’s that for the cherry on top!

You know you are reading something special when you don’t ever want it to end and when it does, you want to read it all over again. There aren’t many words I can use to describe how much I enjoyed this story, but simply put, it was an extraordinary story filled with love, laughter and tears, a hint of suspense, a bit of romance, and a whole lot of heart. Beautifully written, beautifully played out, beautiful characters…just beautiful .
