This book was absolutely phenomenal! Following autistic teen Silas after he's shipped to a women's finishing school to receive a cure for his "Veil Sickness" (re hysteria), The Spirit Bares Its Teeth is a modern gothic novel that is thrilling, heartbreaking, and beautifully written. The setting and vocabulary took several chapters to get used to (as well as Silas continually being misgendered and deadnamed), but as soon as I understood what was happening, I was totally hooked.
