-1.5/5
This book was kind of a shitshow. I wanted to like this book so desperately, but I just couldn't. It wasn't bad per se, but it just wasn't executed well. This was my first Colleen Hoover book, and considering that most people say that it is her best book, I don't know if I'll be reading the other ones.

I cried more reading the Note from the Author then I did while reading the book tbh
it felt like a really important read. I've been exposed to similar relationships during my childhood and some of the quotes I really resonated with.
My favourite characters were definitely Allysa and Atlas (and Marshall he was lowkey funny) The characters didn't feel fleshed out enough for me to REALLY connect with them tho.

The first half of this book was awful and really problematic, but the second half was heart-wrenching and made me so sad. I'm not going to read the sequel, though, because I think that Colleen Hoover's books are just not for me.

I'm not really a Colleen Hoover fan, but this book earned 4 stars from me.
Personally, I saw the red flags from Ryle from the second he was introduced (and I went into this book blind, without knowing it was a book about abuse), but regardless I do feel like this book is captivating because it portrays domestic violence accurately. The thoughts going through Lily's head and Ryle's behaviour were so believable and comparable to real life situations. I teared up a little bit at times. I read this ...more
