What Members Thought

This story is told through the eyes of a precocious child struggling to make meaning of all the threads that weave through her nearly eight-year old life, that she intuits, but does not fully comprehend. In following the threads that her eccentric grandmother leaves for her, she comes to understand her world and her place in it. A thoroughly satisfying read.

This book does take a little while to get into (as my sister told me), but is a good read. It is about an eight-year-old who loses her grandmother and then must deliver a series of letters to others from her grandmother. In the process, the girl discovers how everyone who receives a letter is connected. The book has some magical realism in it, because the people's life stories have been told to the girl by her grandmother (when she was alive) in fairy tale form.
