2020 Re-read: OMG it floors me how KA even made this work for me. It’s filled to the brim with tropes or plot devices that make me stabby. The love triangle would be a bit ole honking NOPE all by itself. Joe waffling like we’re at a pancake house. Reminders of the jackassery of the Bianchis to Frankie. lord in heaven I can’t believe It works. But it does. Still love it after all these years.

10 stars for the beginning
2 stars for the middle
4 for the ending.
It was a good read and I love KA's writing, but it seems Cal / Joe was like every other hero and Violet was just like every other damsel in distress in KA land. It seemed like things were just throw in without any cohesiveness like Mike, and the ending popped out of nowhere. Maybe if the book was shorter than it wouldn't have had much filler and I would have enjoyed it more.
