Where have I been and why hasn’t it been Beacon Hill?? Gahhhh! This story slipped in and swept me away. I’m not only new to Beacon Hill but I’m new to S.J. Himes. A double whammy of goodness. This was a gift (thank you, thank you!!) that plucked me out of a reading slump and gave me that coveted book itch…I want to know what happens next, I want more Angel and Simeon, I NEED moar! PNR has always been my first love and I haven’t been this excited about a ‘supernat’ story in a long time.

PNR has always been my first love and I haven’t been this excited about a ‘supernat’ story in a long time.
So, here’s the scoop…Angel is a necromancer or a black magician. He possesses special powers and wields them with grace and finesse. His entire family was slain by vampires years ago, leaving only himself and his brother, Isaac. His skills are not only coveted but feared by many. He’s an independent contractor of sorts and lends his unique expertise to a local clan of vampires. Unbeknownst to him, the Elder Simeon has been courting him for the past two years. And when he storms into their place radiating fury and impatience he inadvertently ignites a spark with Simeon he’s unprepared for. Get ready to burn baby burn, in the best way!

What's to like: There’s an intriguing mystery that lures you into the dark straightaway. What’s going on with this Greg fella and who is this sexy vampire Simeon? Why is Angel at their beck and call? And who hexed who? Why so much tension? Emotions far beyond my initial grasp bombarded me. I tried to place all the pieces as they flew in every direction but it took me a bit to lay a solid foundation. It was never information overload but a giddy eagerness to collect as many pieces as possible. The romance begins with a flash here and a burst here. My heart picked up with every kiss, every smoldering stare. When they connected, I thought I might burst from spontaneous combustion. So. Hot. But it wasn’t just their feral lovemaking but the deep passion that accompanied each and every touch. Love isn’t always…familiar. Sometimes it’s foreign and frightening. Witnessing them come together was enchanting. Which takes me to…

What's to love: Angel hasn’t been gifted with an abundance of love in his life. Orphaned and bound to care for his younger brother has forced him to grow up quickly. Mourning his family wasn’t conducive because he had to study, train, and raise Isaac. No time to date, let alone have a boyfriend. When Simeon glides into his personal space, he is entranced yet perplexed. How will he know if he loves Simeon? It’s clear the powerful vampire loves him but what if he cannot return his affections? The concept is obvious but what about the motives and ramifications? Angel has always had to look out for himself but suddenly, he craves the security and comfort Simeon offers. I was anxious, excited and on the edge of my seat…what more can you ask for? A continuation of their story? YES PLEASE!!!

Beware of: Naturally, there’s bloodshed, so if you’re squeamish, beware. Supernaturals always lead to extraordinary events and sometimes wee beasties. And pure love, in which heartbeats (or lack thereof) ante up the ultimate price, is guaranteed to take your breath away.

This book is for: If bloodsuckers and powerful magicians make your blood race, this euphoric ride is bound to sate your cravings…and leave you begging for more!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

What an amazing series this is. I binge read all three books because once I started l just could not put them down. Himes has such a way with words, it's just phenomenal. The world building is spectacular, fascinating and days after finishing the the third book I'm still thinking about them.

Angel and Simeon are perfect for each other, both badasses in their own right but together .... a force to be reckoned with.

I loved this. Seriously loved it.

PNR will always be my first love and although this is classified more as UF I'm allowed to disagree. It was totally romantic.

I immediately started the next book in the series.

I don't think I'd give it the 5★'s I did on my first read but this go round there was still a lot to love.

Especially the narration. I loved, loved, loved both the Boston accent and the Irish accent. It added a lot to the book in my opinion. This is a pretty exciting story and having it read to you and hearing the anger and desperation and sadness in Angel's voice upped the excitement level.

I don’t often read paranormal any more, but a Book club that I’m in chose The Necromancer’s Dance by SJ Himes as this month’s selection and I have to say if you like MM and paranormal this book is amazing!! It is HOT and humorous and lots of action (but not overwhelming) AND Romantic!!! The Heroes are GOOD men making a difference in their world!!

I loved this one!! Angel was not a "damsel" in distress but a bad ass necromancer. He loved Simeon long before he admitted it, you just could tell. They made an awesome couple. Great world building and lots of action keep you riveted. Plus the sex was hot!!! I can't wait for the second book to come out in audio so I will have to read it, but make no mistake I will purchase the audio once it's available.
