3.5 stars. I liked the story of the decades old mystery of what happened to Captain Thomas J. Smith & Captain Rogers. And what really was the ending for these two broke my heart. There were from a time where being gay could get you killed, or at the very least incarcerated. I didn't really feel the chemistry between Jun & Aubrey. This book felt like it started in the middle but there's no beginning anywhere.
there's a whole untold story about how Aubrey and Jun met, how they interacted when Aubrey was with Jun's work partner. that would really have helped build up the romance part of the story.
The suspense part was good but I really could have done with less history about captain Smith, it felt dry to me.
Still, superb writing and it's nice to read about people who are different.
