For someone who has never really been a fan of the fantasyworld, I was completely blown away by the first two books in Rebecca Yarros's epic Empyrean Series from the slow and steady build-up to holycraptastic wild rides astraddle the dragons in the sky!

Violet Sorrengail & Xaden Riorson

There are so many things going on in this book that it's hard to put into words without giving anything away. What I will see is that Violet continues to grow. It was definitely to her benefit that she had been trained to a scribe before becoming a rider. It is also to her benefit that she is an adept student, and she is a survivor. She is going to fight hard for what she believes in and for the people she cares about.

I love Violet Sorrengail’s determination.

Iron Flame moves the war out of Basgiath War College to its surrounding border towns and military outposts. The book immediately picks up from where Fourth Wing book ends. We enter the seat of rebellion and gain a deeper understanding of the Gryphons, their fliers, and of Xaden Riorson.
