I must be in the minority, but I really did not like this book. I made it to 50% and just couldn’t read any more. With all the great reviews, I was really looking forward to this book, but now it will be shelved as “not impressed”. Here’s why:

The heroine is an autistic woman. Great! I love when a character struggles with real issues. I know that with autism there are varying degrees of severity, so I was interested to see where this character would fall in that spectrum. Stella does not lik DNF.
I must be in the minority, but I really did not like this book. I made it to 50% and just couldn’t read any more. With all the great reviews, I was really looking forward to this book, but now it will be shelved as “not impressed”. Here’s why:

The heroine is an autistic woman. Great! I love when a character struggles with real issues. I know that with autism there are varying degrees of severity, so I was interested to see where this character would fall in that spectrum. Stella does not like uninvited touches as that irritates her, she only likes touch when she initiates it. She likes to do things in a specific order and has to stick to her routines. She’s very structured. She has sensitivities to smell, sound and touch, easily gets overstimulated if there is too much going on around her and she is socially awkward. These are all valid autistic symptoms.

So she hires Michael (a male escort who apparently has sex with every one of his clients and hates his job) to teach her how to be sexual. They have their first meeting at a hotel and immediately he is touching her and she is not freaking out. She’s very stiff, but allows it and right off the bat I thought, didn’t the previous chapter say she hated uninvited touch? Did her autistic tendencies magically disappear? Ok, I can suspend reality just as good as the next person, but c’mon. This is autism we’re talking about. This continues on with almost every other routine and structure she has in her life. As soon as she meets Michael, BOOM, she doesn’t need to adhere to any of her structures and routines anymore and she’s just magically cured. *Eye Roll*

Then there’s Michael, who I wasn’t impressed with. Because I didn’t get far enough (only 50%) I have no idea why he chose prostitution as his Friday night gig. Yes his mother has cancer and there are some bills, but there’s something going on with his father that I still don’t know about and that seems to drive some of his behavior. Whatever the case, I just didn’t care for him. And, I was being sarcastic when I said I was “only” at 50%. I should’ve known a lot more about Michael at 50%.

Now, let’s jump to the plot. Oh wait, was there one? Hmmmm. Debatable. Here’s what I know: Michael is a Friday night escort who prostitutes himself so he can have money to pay for his mom’s medical bills. He’s a tailor during the day. He has a bad dad that he thinks he is like (no idea why). Stella hires Michael to teach her how to be sexual. Stella is autistic. Stella likes to work 7 days a week. Stella’s autism tendencies go away with Michael. These two have a lot of stiff sex and have zero chemistry.

So, while I had high hopes going in, this one didn’t pan out for me and definitely a book I will not be recommending. ...more

I get why everyone is in love with this one and it wasn't bad, but I did the audio book because time and thats what the library had first. And it just didn't do it for me.

Wow, I really needed that after my last two books. And this is my second read this year that was own voices autistic female MC, and just like the first one, the lady is awesome and as relatable as anyone else.
