I don't even know what to say. Karina Halle is the author of one of the best series I have ever read and I find it shocking that she is the same author who wrote this book. Between 2013 and 2014 I five starred everything she wrote and loved every single page. I am just beside myself with this book.

Maybe too much time has passed since I've read anything by her. Maybe she just changed it all up and we don't fit anymore. Maybe, maybe, maybe.

Whatever the reason is, this book was terrible. Beyond te I don't even know what to say. Whatever the reason is, this book was terrible. Beyond terrible. It was the worst. I don't even think I can 2 star it at this point. Honestly, the more I think about it the more I dislike it and the more I think about it I can't believe this is the same author who gave us Dex and Perry.

I think maybe there comes a time when authors have to stop writing characters so much younger then themselves. I think they forget. I know I forget. You can't write about twenty somethings but then have them be worldly as if they've lived twice that long. It doesn't work and for me, it constantly pulls me out of the story. If you want to write about characters that have serious life experience up their age! Lenore should have read super naive. She is not even 21 yet. She claims she has been lonely her whole life because she felt like no one got her. She doesn't even live on campus. She should have been scared out of her freaking mind over everything that happens to her and everyone around her but instead she's a freaking know it all.

There was no chemistry between Lenore and Absolon and all the mine bullshit pissed me off. I love, love, love MINE, MINE, MINE in my paranormal romances. I love instalove and I'm not going to let you go possessive other worldly Alphas but man, this was not that. That's the best part about PNR. You can't just write that they are possessive you have to show that they are and believe me, Absolon was NOT possessive of Lenore. Two days proves that. The beautiful push and pull between the unknowing, new to this world female and the old, Prince of Darkness should be delicious. This just made me cringe.

And yeah, there was a lot of telling. Telling me how much Lenore loves her friends who she doesn't even have phone numbers for. Who she doesn't reach out to in tragedy. Um, I don't think so. How close her and her parents are. No, again. Not feeling it. Ugh.

Lenore read like the most know it all, conceited bitch ever. She is worldy and fucks like a porn star. She drinks whisky and martinis. Oh wait, she does that now. Two days ago she was drinking some flavored malt shit out of a red solo cup, LIKE A 21 YEAR OLD SHOULD! She is so freaking confident and able. I couldn't stand her and she just continued to get worse and worse and worse.

And Absolon. He had a chance to be a great vamp but the minute Lenore finished her two stages he turned into an absolute bore.

I could probably go on and on but it's just pissing me off.

I am so thankful, after reading this, that I have not revisited the Experiment in Terror series that has recent-ish new additions. The possibility that this writing is now how those stories are written scares the shit out of me.

I'm checking out some reviews on the 2nd book. Not that I even care at this point. ...more
