Let me start by saying that i’m really really disapointed. Up till 60%, I was loving this book, so much, it had the potential to become a favourite but then the last 40% started to feel like I was watching a really bad soap opera.

Warning, this will he really long, I have a lot of feelings about this book.

Sarina Bowen é uma autora que posso sempre contar. Mas a verdade é que não sou sempre assoberbada pelas suas obras. E aqui foi um perfeito exemplo disso mesmo, gostei mas faltou aquele quê para me deixar completamente rendida.

Um autêntico hot mess, Roderick regressa à sua terra natal, depois da traição do namorado. Sem meios, tenta pedir ajudar aos pais. O problema é que eles nunca aceitaram a sua homossexualidade, e se teve de sair de casa com 18, agora mais v 3 'treat it like a sourdough' Stars

Sarina Bowen é uma autora que posso sempre contar. Mas a verdade é que não sou sempre assoberbada pelas suas obras. E aqui foi um perfeito exemplo disso mesmo, gostei mas faltou aquele quê para me deixar completamente rendida.

Um autêntico hot mess, Roderick regressa à sua terra natal, depois da traição do namorado. Sem meios, tenta pedir ajudar aos pais. O problema é que eles nunca aceitaram a sua homossexualidade, e se teve de sair de casa com 18, agora mais velho, vê que as coisas não mudaram.
Torna-se imperativo que arranje trabalho e guarida, e quando o arranja num café/pastelaria, tem a sorte de dar uso à sua profissão como pasteleiro. Só lhe falta mesmo um sitio onde ficar, já que dormir no carro, tem os seus inconvenientes. Quando é feita a sugestão, para que possa ser o colega de casa de Kieran, ele não aceita, para não causar mau estar com o colega de trabalho, já que sente algum desconforto, da parte de Kieran, para consigo.

Kieran, apesar de ter uma família grande, é uma alma solitária e muito reservado. Se há vários problemas familiares que prefere não falar nem puxar assunto, também há outros mais particulares, que também não quer sequer pensar neles. Nomeadamente, ter de explicar a Roderick, o que aconteceu quando eram adolescentes, isto é, se quer ter bom ambiente de trabalho no café. Mas quando vê onde Roderick está a viver, não pode negar estender-lhe a mão.
E a partir daqui, dá-se o mote para estes roommates se conhecerem mais profundamente e juntos vão aprender algumas coisas sobre eles próprios, família, projetos pessoais, entre outras coisas.

Gostei do ambiente de terra pequena e acolhedora, mas para ser franca quando dá espaço a mau ambiente familiar, fica difícil aceitar a facilidade com que tudo é resolvido no final. Assumir que se é gay perante a família/amigos, já costuma ser difícil dizer, quando há bom ambiente familiar, então quando não o há, deve ser ainda mais problemático, daí ser tratado com paninhos quentes, para mim, como leitora, é meio dúbio.
E falando desse mal-estar, que por acaso, não tem nada a ver com a homossexualidade, quando desde o inicio do livro vivemos a acreditar nesta antipatia e tensão entre pai e filho, como é que isto se resolve tão facilmente?
E já agora, eu sei que é um livro em que os protagonistas trabalham num café, mas conversa toda de pastelaria/padaria/cozinha foi um bocadinho demais.

O que não resultou foi existirem dramas familiares e outros que foram pouco aprofundados e não tiveram o devido tratamento. Apesar de formarem um casal fofo, não fiquei de todo fã, a relação em si, devia ter sido mais desenvolvida. Deu bem para passar o meu tempo mas não é de todo uma história que me vou recordar daqui a uns tempos.

Any book set in Sarina Bowen’s True North world is always a book I want to read. This book isn’t part of the original True North series and reads as a standalone, but for those that have read the other books, the presence of the Shipleys and other familiar characters adds to the charm of this story.

Roderick and Kieran were a couple I was rooting for from the first glimpse. I enjoyed their growth together and the relationship they built as they also figured out their own lives. There’s a bit of ...more

Great read!

I love Sarina Bowen’s style of writing. Every one of her characters are so real and relatable. She is one of the best authors out there who create world-building series. Roommate is no exception.

Kiernan and Roderick are adorable as is the whole Shipley clan. Can’t wait for more from other authors who will be contributing to this series.
