Well, that was a phenomenal surprise. Before I started this I wasn't too sure about Ellen from the blurb. Then I started it and ... I fell in love, totally and utterly. Fell in love with the characters - Ellen, Flint and Harrison as well as the side characters who were fantastic, fell in love with the story, fell in love with the writing, fell in love with the honesty and realness of the characters. There is nothing I can find fault with or didn't like. Not a thing.

Look the Part, is my first book I read by this author, but it certainly will not be my last. Starting from the prologue, this author had my emotions all over the place.

Flint Hopkins made a really stupid decision, and now he is living with unfathomable grief and guilt. His entire life now, is focused on raising his autistic son, Harrison, on his own. He definitely didn’t count on his new office tenant to turn his world upside down and causing a crack in his cold heart.

I don’t know how I’ve gone this long without reading a Jewel E Ann book before. I loved this one! It had all the book feels for me. It’s definitely a new favourite.

"My mother used to smile and grab the lapels to my father’s suit jacket and say, ‘Jonathan Samuel Anderson, you sure do look the part.’
“Then she’d pull him in for a kiss. I’d wrinkle my nose in disgust, but I never turned away. Then he’d say, ‘What part is that, my dear?’
She replied, ‘My man, of course.’”

I thought this was just such a sweet quote. I loved the different ways it was repeated throughout the book.

Flint is a high-powered attorney living his life for his son. He has been punishing himself for 10 years for an accident that killed his wife. Ellen is a quirky musical therapist who rents an office space from Flint for her practice. I love her idiosyncrasies; the way she always needed to straighten Flints tie and humming without realizing it.

I really felt both of their emotional pain. Flint’s belief that he’s unworthy of the life he has. Ellen, feeling like she is undeserving of touch. I love their honesty, even if the truth hurts and causes so much anguish.

There was so much humour in this book as well; I found myself giggling quite often. The sexual tension and chemistry between these two was terrific. The playfulness and innuendoes while they were around others was so cute. It seemed so much more intimate than when they were together, alone.

The secondary characters were very strong and much welcomed additions to the story. Harrison is Flint’s darling 12-year old, mildly autistic son who develops a deep fondness for Ellen and her five rats (yes five!). He’s oblivious to social norms and is a musical genius. I also loved Amanda, the smart-mouthed assistant to Flint who was fired every day and returned to work every morning. Both sets of parents and Ellen’s grandparents were endearing and entertaining.

This was such a wonderful book. I can’t wait to read more from Jewel E Ann. ...more

4+ "'I want this life.' ~Elle" Stars!

"It’s tragic. It’s complicated. It’s filled with obstacles. But …" ~LOOK THE PART

...And that quote just about sums up this book. After almost stopping after the prologue because I just didn't think I would be able to fall for Flint. I'm really happy I didn't stop reading this story. While I didn't necessarily fall for him like I do so many male mc, I did find myself rooting hard for Flint to be happy. And for Elle to be happy.... And for Harrison to be h ...more
