Full disclosure - I had the pleasure of beta reading this first book in the Killers series (hence, no rating/full review). That said, I'm happy to say that Ms. Asher's writing continues to grow stronger with each book. Very enjoyable romance with danger...and cows. Not dangerous cows, just cute ones. Fun start to a new series by a new author to me. Swoony alpha protective hero. My kind of guy. Very Kristen Asheyesque. With a series name of The Killers though I would have liked a little more action. 4 stars!

H is pretty decent, alpha male with a strong protective instincts that zeroed in on our h and more or less decided to take care of and protect her from the start. He is also v perceptive and in tuned with h's reactions and makes a huge effort to help her overcome her issues.

Now our h has issues, which I get bas Was only ok for me. I really didn't like the h, as some of the things she did really borders in tstl for me, plus I really hate her contrary attitude yet was more or less a pushover here.

Now our h has issues, which I get based on her past, I also understand her need to be independent and act as she pleases without answering to anyone, but to be honest, some of the things she did really borders on stupid given the situation. And while she did act contrary sometimes, I just didn't see a point except just to be contrary, which is annoying especially when there isn't a reason to do that. While I do applaud her being so supportive and understanding of H's dilemma, I was a bit disappointed she folded so easily given her temperament, would have liked to see some conflict there instead though I see her reaction really means she is the one for him I guess. Towards the end, though, she seems as flat as a doormat given her melty reaction to H and her hysterical and stupid moves when confronted with danger, as well as her sometimes to me callous reaction to other characters. I guess I just didn't connect with her well.

I am a bit disappointed with the plot of this one having read the other series, while the storyarc is still filled with suspense, it isn't as full of twists and turns or events as I thought and I thought it dragged out quite a bit. I was initially v invested as I really want to know what both's big secret is, but after that, things seem to be pretty meh with a lot of sexy times (I guess I am just not in the mood being sick still so I really more or less just skip most of these scenes, I also didn't like it due to the issue brought up in their first scene and kept thinking it is more like a one upmanship match than anything else, just didn't feel sexy to me after that no idea why).

Anyways, it still is an ok read though not as much fun as I expected. I do like the little paragraph where we finally understood why this book is named thus. ...more

This book was exactly what I needed: good story, little angst, strong characters and sexy times. Every time I read a new Brynne Asher book, I swear it's the best one and my new favorite. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. ...more
