My thoughts after a re read.

Yes, it could have been longer. I love KA's longer stories, and did feel at times, that the issues and just their relationship could have benefited from being written about with a lot more depth.

However, this is a personal preference, and I have read reviews where others have not liked that it can get so "long winded" with some of her older stuff.

In saying that, I liked their history together, and that Reece became aware that he had left the best thing t 4 great stars.

In saying that, I liked their history together, and that Reece became aware that he had left the best thing to ever happen to him, but at the time, he was not a man who could appreciate or would have been able to commit to it, and thought it was done well.

He was a different type of KA hero, a wanderer. His past relationships had shaped him and changed him, but he knew this, in a way he made the decision to make it change him, in a way to protect himself.

Him waking up and realising what he has had all along, took an axe to the shoulder!

I loved Reece and Zara together, and how when he came back for Zara, he was aware she was now not in that place, but he still had her back and wanted to look after her.

And Zara, she was brave, she knew how she felt for Reece right from the start, but she knew (or thought at the time) she could not change how he was, and knew even trying would be a mistake and hurt them both more, so she had him the way she could, but when it was no longer working, and she wanted more out of life, knowing how much it would hurt, she still made the break and made it clean. It did not work out for her, but she did it with a hope for more for her, and a sadness in losing Reece.

It was a different tone to the rest of the Colorado Mountain series, no mad man murderer, or insane police chiefs or "The Elite" burying ppl alive, but I was kind of relieved about that, was all getting a bit "murder she wrote" with so much happening in one place (or in the case of Jessica Fletcher, around one person...I reckon it was always Jessica Fletcher and she has been getting away with it for years)

An excellent 4 stars.

Man, my original review is pretty much spot on. Whatever was missing on my original read was still missing this go round, maybe even more. I didn't really love it this time like I did then. It was good but it just didn't have the same vibe as the others and kind of felt like it could have just been a stand alone and not part of this series.

I still don't feel them.

On to the next one!

For the record guys, I liked the nickname Ham, I got it and it worked for me. Ok now I will move on. :)

Kristen Ashley, hands down has become my favorite author. I devoured all of her books and was devastated once I had finished all of them. Then, I became the person who waited and waited for her to give us another book. I was beyond excited when I was given the opportunity to read her newest release prior to its release date. BEYOND EXCITED!! I couldn’t wait to start and fall head first into the wonderful world that only she can write, and I did. Head over feet, fell right in. Falling was just a little bittersweet though. I will admit that this one was just not a favorite for me. Something was just missing. I didn’t have the same pull that all the other books seem to have over me. Now, that does not mean I didn’t love the story and the people in it. I did. There was just something missing and I still am not exactly sure what it is.

This is the 5th installment in the Colorado Mountain series and this time we get the story of Graham Reece who we were introduced to in For You which is the first book of The 'Burg series and Zara Cinder. Reece and Zara have a lot of history between them. They had a relationship for years but not the staying in town kind, he is my boyfriend let’s play house. No, they had a relationship when Reece would come to town. They were really good friends and they did talk and were there for each other when they needed each other, there just wasn’t any permanence to it. Zara wanted Reece forever but Reece just didn’t do forever. This broke my heart because she had to let him go. So she did, for three years. This is the story of him coming back to stay and Zara getting her true love.

This may be the first book that Kristen Ashley has written that I just didn’t feel that deep, emotional, these two people were made for each other feeling. I did love Ham and Zara. I loved watching him become the man he always was meant to be and I loved watching Zara get her man, her only man, but I had a lot of reservations about their relationship, stuff that was worked out but I just don’t know if I got over it. As there always is in Colorado, we need some non-romantic drama. There was a lot going on in this one but it wasn’t scary dangerous, it was more just a threat. So, overall I really did enjoy it, I didn’t get to the end and feel let down, I just got to the end and felt something was missing. Not normal KA perfection for me but still a very close to perfect read. Read. ...more

With Kristen Ashley novels there is an expectation that there will be an Alpha male. KA doesn't write beta heros so her Alpha males do not watch their language, are possessive, dominant and do not back down from a fight. Her Alphas also have a heart of gold. This is what I love. Graham Reese (Ham) was definitely a KA Alpha but I just didn't love him as much as the heros in her other books. Loved Reece and Zara story! It was a change in the series since there wasn't a serial killer or corrupt police force but it was sweet. Was hoping to see some of the Carnal characters but over all I really enjoyed reading this book. ...more

As you can see from the star rating, this one didn't hold a candle to the others I have read so far in the series.

I usually love Kristen Ashley's novels and have been able to overlook the minor things that I don't usually like very much, but since this one didn't hold me the same as the others, those minor issues stood out more.

I am getting a little sick of the lack of pronouns. Is this supposed to be a true depiction of how they talk in Small Town, Colorado or Colorado as a whole? I love alpha ...more
