Struggled to connect with the characters, less focus on the Hunger Games and more on the character building and relationships would have been a far better outcome, with characters that weren't so bland and uninteresting. That took up so much of the story that when the good bit eventually came near the end it was wrapped up way too quickly and neatly. Even my favourite Butch was a bit meh.

What a great start to this spin-off series! Loved being back in the BDB world as it's one of my favorite series. I wasn't sure what to expect, but am happy to see that Ward stays true to form with complex characters and multiple plot lines. Loved the mixing of past characters/couples with new recruits. Butch & Marissa's story line is heart-touching as they work through some communication issues and search for a murderer. Lassiter's back with his hilarious antics and comments lending a lighter ai

Well, this is definitely a case of "everybody loved it, but me" I read up until 65% and I just couldn't take it anymore, so I skimmed and read the last four chapters. I just couldn't connect with the H/h and even Butch and Marissa didn't hold my interest.

Butch and Marissa (view spoiler)
The beaten woman (view spoiler) ...more

I wasn't sure what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised by the story. The book focuses on Paradise, daughter of Abalone...Wrath's advisor. She's been accepted into the training program and meets Craeg, another recruit. She hasn't told anyone who she is or that she's part of the glymera. Craeg is a commoner, and has a vendetta against the aristocrat who left his family to die.
