Hmm... Kinda on the fence with this one,
I wanted to love it as I have all the others but....I'm felt conflicted, they did finally get together, but there was so much back and forth, a 5 year time lapse, jail...the grudge...it was a bit to much!
There was some really good sex scenes "The art lesson" WOW I wish it could have continued along that line... So much more potential to have read about their sexy together times! I was starting to loose my connection and feelings for them as a coup ...more

Well, I'm going to keep this short. This was a very interesting read. It has a lot of club action in it and a lot of relationship drama between Painter and Mel.

I liked Melanie a lot. She wasn't too much of a pushover and I completely got where she was coming from concerning Painter. Though I guess it had to go this way in the end, I kinda wish she'd just moved on, for real.

4 stars for book five in the Reaper's MC series that features Levi "Painter" Brooks and Melanie Tucker. We have met these two characters in past books with Mel portrayed as the innocent little sweetheart that London takes under her wing and Painter as the jerky prospect that was stringing Em along before she finally quit him and hooked up with her hubby Liam. At the end of the last book Painter ended up going to jail for the MC after helping during Picnic's fiasco and he and Mel were just friend 4 stars for book five in the Reaper's MC series that features Levi "Painter" Brooks and Melanie Tucker. Yet somehow these friendships always have a way of changing.

Melanie Tucker is young and naive when she firsts meets Painter at a clubhouse party with her wild child best friend Jessica. She is instantly smitten with the man but he denies any attempts she throws at him before he ends up going to prison for a year. Mel decides to write Painter letters and they keep up this communication the whole time he is incarcerated but the minute he gets out he avoids her like the plague. Mel can't understand what she did to upset him and decides to confront him for ignoring her since he has been home from California.

Painter has wanted Melanie since the first time he saw her at the clubhouse over a year ago but the MC president's then girlfriend asked him to back off. Painter doesn't know how much longer he can resist Mel especially since she thinks he doesn't want her. Then like divine intervention due to a technicality Painter is free to pursue Melanie and after much deliberation and hiding on his behalf he gives in to what he has wanted all along and claims Mel.

Painter and Melanie don't have much time together before circumstances come between them that set them both on different paths again in their lives. This time around the consequences being so severe and far reaching Painter doesn't know if he will ever be able to right the wrongs that were done and make Mel believe she is truly the one for him.

This book was not the usual Reaper's book for me where we had a good view of club life and inner workings of the dynamics in the MC. Painter and Mel's situation was unique to say the least but I missed the MC. When I started this book Painter was not my favorite character and now he is in the top three but Melanie who I liked at first was a bit much for me to stomach with her constant back and forth, so I guess it's true never make assumptions. Bring on Gage, please Joanna Wylde! I need Gage stat :) ...more

Another great addition to this series! I loved Painter & Melanie's story! They are forced to endure so much heartache, a lot of wrong time, wrong place scenarios - I don't think I've ever known a couple who deserved a break more. Timing is everything, and it seems each time these two get together some force works to tear them apart. Maybe it's just me.
Maybe it was Painter.
Maybe it was Melanie.

I had a hard time getting into this one, and really was annoyed by the assholeness of Painter, the stupid party girls Kit and Jessica, and had a really hard time even remembering who in the heck was Melanie.

I normally enjoy The Reapers books, but this one missed the mark for me. ...more
