I'm so glad TPAM decided to do a group/buddy read of this as I don't think I would have got around to reading it if not.

It addressed difficult subject matter and in parts it was quite grim, however the grimness gave way to a fair amoun of smaltz which definitely for me took the edge off the darkness element and because of this the gritty bits of the book won't be playing on my mind! (At least I hope they won't!)
