5++ Stars!!

WOW! What a poignant story. I loved every sentence. I loved each character. I loved it all. I feel like I have been taught a great life lesson that I pray I never have to actually put into practice. When I started reading Making Faces late one night, I was in a bit of a book rut. I had heard many people saying to read this book so I thought I would give it a go. Nobody told me that reading this book would be eye opening or make you feel so deeply that your heart hurt for the characters. Well here is your warning! Making Faces blew me away. I couldn’t stop turning pages, I had to know what happened next. I was entrapped until the very end and loved every second of it.

Making Faces for me, was an eye opening, amazing story of love, loss, friendship, self esteem, looking beyond someone's exterior to get to know a person and love them without boundaries or contingencies.

First we meet Fern, who is deeply in love with Ambrose Young. Fern is not popular or one of the “pretty” girls so she goes unnoticed by Ambrose. Fern believes that she isn’t good enough or beautiful enough to be with someone who is as beautiful as Ambrose.

“If God makes all our faces, did he laugh when he made me?”

Ambrose Young is the popular, high school wrestling star. He is the one all the girls want and the one all the guys want to be friends with. When the tragic events of 9/11 happen, Ambrose is compelled to enlist, he approaches his friends about enlisting with him and they all decide together to go for it. When they go off to war, tragedy strikes and only Ambrose returns to their small town alive.

“If God saved my life, why didn't he save their lives? Is my life so much more valuable? So I'm special... and they're not?”

When Ambrose returns home he is injured and disfigured. He wants to hide anyway from the world. When Fern see’s an opportunity to get Ambrose to interact with her, she goes for it. When Ambrose allows Fern into his life and heart they both begin to heal in their own way.

“I would rather be lost with you than alone without you.”

Making Faces is above and beyond just a love story. There are other major elements and character’s in this story that make it so amazing, but I don’t want to give anything away. I loved being surprised while reading this story, because there is so much that isn’t talked about in the synopsis. I can’t stress enough that this book must be read by everyone. There aren’t any sex scenes, so even teens can read this book.

The story does go back and forth from past and present, which usually makes me crazy! It felt right in this story and I don’t think it could have been done any other way. This book is a standalone and there is a very happy and breathtaking HEA.

“I think people are like that. When you really look at them, you stop seeing a perfect nose or straight teeth. You stop seeing the acne scar or the dimple in the chin. Those things start to blur, and suddenly you see them, the colors, the life inside the shell, and beauty takes on a whole new meaning."

I'm really picky about books I read sometimes. I had this book on my wish list for a while and soon as the price dropped i got it. I like instabonds probably because that's what I write about. This was not one of those books. I laughed and cried a lot because I could feel the emotion of the characters. At one point I was flat out sobbing. Well written and beautifully executed. ...more

This book is truly amazing, it romantic moving and touches our hearts, it made me laugh, cry and everything its very sweet and gives us a lot of lessons that are good for us, i REALLY RECOMMEND IT. Loved it very much
