I absolutely love this book. I think Geneen Roth has combined her years of experience, her own personal challenges and created a book that speaks the truth behind why we have problems with food around the world. Food is not ever the problem - speaking as someone who has used food as comfort, to decrease stress and to find peace in moments of stress and chaos, I had come to realize long before I read this book taht food is never the problem. She offers a useful set of eating guidelines as well as describing techniques that can be used to identify and work through unpleasant emotions so there will be no reason to overeat. I read this book for my book study group. It was hard to relate to the author because she is pretty obsessive but, as she kept pointing out, one doesn't have to have a particular obsession with food to get something out of this book. She had a very positive spiritual message about understanding ourselves so we can deal with our issues. Her point was to stop beating ourselves up and to just try to stay focused on the "present" and not deal with past issues other than to recognize them. It served ...more
