Pride and Prejudice is a classic that's surprisingly easy to follow once you get used to the old style of writing. The story follows witty and bold Elizabeth Bennet and her family, how they work in the society and about Mr. Darcy who seemed to be an interesting man to Elizabeth at first, but came to be one of the most hated individual to her. Mr. Darcy comes off as an arrogant man, but towards later in the book, we truly understand his character. The romance is slowburn (I'm talking snail level Pride and Prejudice is a classic that's surprisingly easy to follow once you get used to the old style of writing. The story follows witty and bold Elizabeth Bennet and her family, how they work in the society and about Mr. Darcy who seemed to be an interesting man to Elizabeth at first, but came to be one of the most hated individual to her. Mr. Darcy comes off as an arrogant man, but towards later in the book, we truly understand his character. The romance is slowburn (I'm talking snail level slow) as it is built through various elaborated conversations, misunderstandings and reconciliations.✨️

~My review~
It was definitely a slow read, but that's expected considering it was a classic.
What stood out for me is how Austen took the opportunity to call out humorously various aspects of society during that time - especially regarding the whole agenda of marrying of daughters who are of age, family drama and people who pride themselves for their family connections, social standings etc.

In the midst of all that, Elizabeth stands out due to her bold character; she isn't afraid of offending anyone and speaks true of heart.
To be honest, I would have really preferred to see more of Mr. Darcy.😭 A lot of time went in the fact that she misunderstood him a lot, and he was too embarrassed to face her. But I loved how it turned out for them.✨️

I love the character development of Jane, who saw only the good in everything at the beginning, but later evolved to understand situations and read people better.
Also, unlike the usual parents we see (like Mrs. Bennet in this one always only eager to marry off her daughters), I ought to talk about Mr. Bennet. Even though he feigned responsibility for his family at times (he was a bit clueless and was always lost in his world) he did love his daughters dearly and wanted the best for them rather than to ship them off somewhere.

Don't get me started on Wickham, like I have nothing good to say about him.
