I thought about giving this one four stars simply because I was able to figure out who the murderer was quite a bit of time before Talbot and James did, but after thinking about it for awhile it highlights how distracted the characters were in this book by the subplots, which were pretty intriguing. I do like that the characters aren't always on top of their game, and that life does impact on their jobs. Crombie does a really good job of keeping the reader busy with fairly well developed sub-plo ...more

I started reading this series last fall and let me say it has been my pleasure to meet Duncan and Gemma, their families and growing number of friends. This series is wonderful and this latest edition was thoroughly enjoyable to read. I look forward to seeing what Deborah has in store next for Duncan, Gemma and the cast of characters in this series.

I love this series, and I love Deborah Crombie. The series reminds me a lot of the In-Death series by JD Robb (without the futuristic element, or the ultra-rich). I love this series and recommend it for anyone who loves a British mystery. The book continues the life of Duncan and Kincaid while they solve a seemingly unsolvable mystery. All of the characters are well-drawn and complete, they mystery is compelling and the continuation of the family story is satisfying.
