Eva and Nell (Penelope) are 16 and 17 years old at the time of this book. Nell is telling the story. A few years ago an unknown disaster/war/disease or combination caused the collapse of the government. Ballerina Eva and studious, Harvard-bound Nell and their father live outside of town in the woods of California, so they get even less news than the rest of their community. This was an interesting post-apocalyptic novel. It focuses almost exclusively on two sisters whose family has lived mainly off the grid. It is a survival story as they aren't looking for new civilization or trying to figure out what happened. It is more introspective than some of the post-apocalyptic fiction I've read. The sisters have to come to terms with the end of the world in their own way while depending on each other. I think it will make for a good book club discussion.
