My post-apocalyptic book club has read some strange things and I'm curious as to how this book will be received. At times I wondered if this had been written in the 1950s for some of the views on what it means to be female. The afterword put some of the story in perspective and definitely should be read if you feel "what was the point of this" when you finish the story.

I can honestly say I’ve never read anything quite like this.
Finishing this book, I was at a loss for words. I wish I could read it again for the first time, it affected me so strongly. Throughout the novel I was alternating between feelings of dread, anticipation, and despair. I knew where the novel would take us due to our upfront narrator, but I kept hoping against all reason, much like our main character, for a different outcome. The actual plot of the book raised more questions than it answ ...more
