I received an advanced copy of the novel for a honest review.

Full of plot twists and surprises, this is the kind of fantasy I enjoy the most.

Pluses:
- fast paced
- full of plot twists, you never know who's friend or foe
- interesting main character with dark past and cynical attitude, but doesn't fall into "overly sassy" stereotype
- a romantic sub-plot that doesn't overwhelm the main plot, it's there, but the main fantasy plot holds the reins

A story about monsters. And about the scars they leave on your body, your mind, your community, and the world.

So many mysteries to unravel in this book and I enjoyed being wrong about all of my assumptions.

Lessons learned: don’t romanticize every horrid thing with a pretty face, and no matter what is happening or how afraid you are, never give up your power.

Uh, so this was perfectly okay. I liked a lot of it and was a little bored for others but overall it was nice and I think I will read the second one at some point.
