EDIT: I was reminded of this book again and disliked it even more upon reflection.
I’m a bit annoyed I forced myself to finish this lol. Started out really strong, but soon I realized the main character was really stupid. The plot twists were a bit too obvious, but it took ages for her to realize, and I as the reader had the same amount of information as her since the book was in 1st person. The overall plot was interesting. The Nightmare was the only thing that motivated me to finish this book, ...more

I found myself reading this book much slower than my usual pace just to catch every word on the page. Really REALLY enjoyed the poetry, lore, pacing, and gothic vibes. Honestly, 5 stars, no notes. Although some parts were slow, it gradually picked up, building tension un ...more

Wow. This was incredible. Perfect time of year to read this extremely atmospheric gothic fantasy. Imagine dark castles, forests, a mist that surrounds the kingdom, secrets, and the most unique magic system I've ever read about. Like just so cool and unique I wish I had Rachel Gilligs mind.
ALSO THE ENDING CMONNNNNN OH SHITTTT
reading the next book immediately.
The side characters were fantastic like I love Elm!! Elm supremacy! Love Ravyn obviously... Also Ione... I sussed out by you and ...more
